In short row knitting, when you work a series of wrap and turns (w&t), horizontal wrap ‘bars’ on the knit side can create a diagonal effect. This may be left as part of the design, for example on a sock, or it can also be worked over and removed as fuller rows are worked again.
The bars around each wrapped stitch are visible on the K side and to remove these horizontal wraps, the bar of the wrapped stitch is worked together with the next stitch on the left-hand needle. It is worked slightly different on knit or purl rows.
To hide the bar on a purl row, work to the wrapped stitch. Insert the right-hand needle into back of loop of wrap bar and lift it onto the left-hand needle. Purl the wrap together with the stitch.
To hide the bar on a knit row work to the wrapped stitch. Insert the right-hand needle under bar and through the stitch on needle, then knit the wrap together with the stitch.
Knitting the wraps into the fabric intros way removed the horizontal bars for a smoother surface finish.
