What you need to know

Knit Val Pierce's fluffy festive sloth pattern, dressed in an appliqué Christmas jumper.

Sloths always seem to look like they’re smiling and this knitted chap is no exception - we’re sure he’ll make you smile too with his super jolly snowman jumper and stripy festive hat. The faux fur yarn is wonderfully soft and cuddly but it is hard to see your stitches, so work slowly and carefully in good light. You might also find it easier to sew up your pieces using a smooth yarn in a similar colour.

What do I need?

Yarn: King Cole Luxury Fur, shade 4204 Impala, two 100g balls; King Cole Pricewise DK, shades 009 Red, 001 White, 1694 Bottle, 029 Dark Grey, 1741 Fudge, one 100g ball of each, oddments of Black and Orange DK
Needles: 4mm, 4.5mm
Safety toy stuffing
Safety toy eyes: 1cm, black, two
Tapestry needle

Sizing

Head to toe: 50cm tall
When seated: 25.5cm tall
Hat: 19cm long

Top knit tips

It’s quite difficult to count rows and see where you have increased or decreased stitches in the furry yarn, so write down each row as you work to avoid losing your place.

When knitting every row, your fabric will be reversible so thread a stitch marker or short length of sewing cotton to identify the right side of your work. When counting your rows, remember that each garter stitch ‘ridge’ equals two rows.
