What you need to know

Learn how to knit intarsia colourwork with Tina Barrett’s romper suit for ages 0-18 months

Our romper is as cute as a button and perfect for your toddler as they zoom around the room on all fours. Our designer Tina chose a soft cotton blend with 40% acrylic that adds strength and durability to knitted items. As well as having funky stripy legs, the romper also features a delightful starfish motif, which is worked using the intarsia colourwork technique.

Sizing

Age: 0-3 (3-6, 6-12, 12-18) mnths
Finished Chest: 41.5 (45.5, 52.5, 60) cm
Length from Shoulder: 31 41.5, 45.5, 53) cm
Sleeve Length: 5 (6.5, 6.5, 8) cm
Leg Length: 6.5 (8, 10, 13) cm

What do I need?

Yarn: Sirdar Calico DK, (A) shade 731 South Beach, (B) shade 729 Oasis, (C) shade 728 Bandana, one 50g ball of each, (D) shade 724 Muslin, 1 (1, 2, 2) 50g balls; small amount black yarn for embroidery
Needles: 3.5mm, 4mm
Buttons: plastic, dotty, 5 (7, 8, 10)
Stitch holders, two

Yarn substitution

The original yarn had a high meterage of 158m per 50g ball, so you may need an extra ball of yarn. Multiply the number of balls for your size by 158 to work out the meterage you will need, then divide this figure by the meterage of your intended yarn to see if you have enough.

Top knit tip

Babies come in all shapes and sizes so you may find you need to make a few adjustments to get garments to fit perfectly. When deciding on which size to knit, it's important to look at the measurements instead of just selecting the relevant age range. We recommend choosing the correct chest measurements, then altering the length to fit if necessary. If you need to change the length of the body or legs on our Benny romper, simply work more or fewer rows on the straight sections.
