Yarn review: Katia

Yarn review: Katia

Spring may be on the horizon, but it certainly seems to be getting colder every day! Spanish spinner Katia is a relative newcomer to the UK market, but they have some incredible winter yarns that will see you through this cold snap, right into the warmer seasons. We take a closer look at a few of our favourites.

1. Katia Air Lux
Made using 30% extrafine Merino wool and 70% viscose, this lightweight yarn is great for transitioning into spring. The chainette construction keeps it light and airy, and it has a simply beautiful sheen. One 50g (300m) ball costs £6.20.

2. Katia New York
Available in 11 sumptuous evening shades, New York is another chainette yarn, this time made with acrylic, wool, linen, alpaca and polyester – no wonder it’s so soft! The sparkly thread spun into its core adds just a touch of extra glamour. One 50g (120m) ball costs £5.40.

3. Katia Silk-Mohair
You’ll win no prizes for guessing what this particular yarn is made from! Exquisitely soft to touch, the delicate structure and fuzzy halo makes it great for light, airy knits. Plus, the variegated shades will create something truly spectacular. One 25g (200m) ball costs £7.95.

4. Katia Merino Tweed
Available in a range of rustic hues, there’s something irresistibly charming about this simple wool and acrylic yarn. Complete with contrasting neps, it has a tension of 16 stitches and 20 rows on 5mm needles, therefore falling between a chunky and aran weight. One 50g (80m) ball costs £3.90.

5. Katia Bombon
With a choice of 16 solid colours, this super fluffy yarn has a thick eyelash construction, and knits up to create a teddy bear-like fabric that kids just won’t be able to resist! Made from 100% nylon. One 50g (85m) ball costs £2.95.

6. Katia Funky
With a gradual variation in colour, Katia Funky uses just one ball to create a stylish hat or cowl, and even comes complete with a pattern! The acrylic and wool blend comes with a strong twist which is sure to keep you warm. One 100g (180m) ball costs £9.49.
