Celebrate 2014’s football World Cup with our sporty-inspired projects – if you finish all four before the final whistle, you could even win a prize!
Tomorrow marks the kick-off of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, so find a creative outlet for that football fever and get involved with our brilliant knitalong!
We’ve got four great projects for you to knit during the World Cup:
Group Stage: Brazilian flag
Designed by LK editorial assistant Amy Adams, this Brazilian flag chart can be applied to cushions, blankets, bags and more – or simply attach it to a stick and wave with gusto!
Quarter Final: Stripy wristwarmers
Show your support by knitting Wendy Mould’s quick and easy wristwarmers in your chosen team’s sporting colours.
Semi-Final: Sporty accessories
Inspired to get active? You’ll love Susie Johns’ sweatbands, towel and carry bag set.
Final: David Beckham
Although retired, David Beckham is still an iconic figure in the sport and this doll from Jackie Holt and Ruth Bailey captures him perfectly!
There’s a whole host of techniques to try, ranging from simple stripes to more intricate colourwork, and easy lace stitches. No matter your skill level, you’ll all be able to enjoy these fabulous makes.
The knitalong launches at the same time as the official opening ceremony at 7.15pm (UK time), and closes when the final whistle blows at the end of the World Cup Final on 13th July.
Share your pics as you go and let us know your progress on Facebook, our new Ravelry group and @letsknitmag on Twitter – use the hashtag #LKworldcup. At the end of the tournament, we’ll be awarding a prize to our favourite set of complete projects*.
Good luck everyone!
