A Victorian Festival of Christmas

We think one of the best things about the festive season are the markets crammed with crafty goodies! So, we can’t possibly think of a better way to spend the first day of Advent than at Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard meeting Father Christmas, watching street entertainment, and shopping to our heart’s content. For more information, visit www.christmasfestival.co.uk

Christmas Jumper Day
13th December
Grab your diary, a pen, and your favourite needles because it’s almost Christmas Jumper Day! Save the Children’s ‘make the world better with a sweater’ campaign encourages people from across the country to wear a Christmas jumper on Friday 13th December, in exchange for a £1 donation to help improve the lives of our world’s vulnerable children. There are many ways to get involved: you can dig out a retro favourite, tinsel up an ordinary sweater or even buy a Christmas jumper. However, dear knitters - there is also the option to knit your own full-sized or miniature jumper to garnish your Christmas tree with. The mini knitted jumper patterns were designed exclusively by the lovely Debbie Bliss, and the full-sized sweater is taken from Sue Stratford’s fabulous book: Merry Christmas Sweaters, boasting a cheeky snowman.
To download the free patterns, and for more information call 020 7012 6400, or visit www.christmasjumperday.org

Carol Singing with Santa
17th December
Warm up at the National Wool Museum with a hot tea, yummy mince pies and enjoy a sing-song with our favourite celebrity: Father Christmas. What else needs to be said but IT’S CHRISTMAS! For more information call 029 2057 3070, or visit: www.museumwales.ac.uk

Frankfurt Christmas Market
Until 22nd December
The Frankfurt Christmas Market in Birmingham is one we look forward to every year. We believe the best way to tackle your Christmas shopping is with a glass of mulled wine in one hand, and a gingerbread man in the other – both of which you definitely won’t be short of here! While away the hours (and the cash) purchasing unique gifts, and make sure you keep an eye out for the Christmas Craft Market, too – where you’ll find endless handmade goods. For more details, call 0121 303 3008, or visit www.birmingham.gov.uk/frankfurtmarket

Winter Wonderland
Until 5th January
There is something for absolutely everybody at Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland. Enjoy marvellous views of the city from the Giant Wheel, show off your skills on the ice rink, take a seat at the circus, or have a stroll around the many stalls. You’ll feel like you have walked straight into the North Pole on Christmas Eve. The only thing missing is the elves – or are they?
