Take part in the WI’s corgi knitting competition with these paw-fect patterns
In honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this year, the WI are launching a knitting competition, encouraging crafters to knit and hide a corgi in their local community for others to find.
To help you lovely knitters get involved, we’ve sought out seven of the best corgi knitting patterns around (including some free knitting patterns!) for you to get your needles into, ready to take part in the WI’s ‘Where’s WInnie?’ competition.
What is the corgi knitting competition all about?
The WI competition is called ‘Where’s WInnie?’ and will begin on 1 May 2022. Knitters will create and hide knitted corgis in their local area, and WI members are encouraged to include a special tag with their knitted corgi, allowing the public to map where it was found on the WI’s website.
“Knitters of all skill levels are encouraged to join in, with the pattern designed for those at a relatively beginner level. For those who find the corgis, they can visit the WI website to map where they have found her and also post on social media using hashtag #WheresWInnie. We hope that WInnie the corgi will brighten the day of anyone who finds her.”
Ann Jones, Chair of the NFWI
What’s the prize for the WI’s knitted corgi competition?
There will be one extra special knitted corgi entitling the finder and their guest to tickets to a Big Jubilee Lunch being held in London on Sunday 5 June!
How can I knit a corgi?
Hannah Joyce, a member of the Woolwich and Plumstead Roses WI, has designed a free corgi knitting pattern, which you can find by clicking here and here.
This free corgi knitting pattern is super easy to follow, so even novice knitters can get involved, and you’re encouraged to use up leftover yarn from your stash to make your knitted corgi.
“I want to get people involved who might not be self-confessed knitters. Everything has been spelled out in the pattern so that it should be easy to follow. I want to encourage people to reuse and recycle: knit pink corgis, or red, white and blue corgis, and use up whatever yarn you have left over.”
Hannah Joyce, WI member and corgi knitting pattern designer
