Help raise money for Age UK by knitting miniature hats for innocent smoothie bottles – and download a free sheep pattern by Val Pierce!
Since 2003, knitters all over the UK have been making tiny hats to top bottles of innocent smoothies. Then for each smoothie sold, 25p is donated to Age UK, meaning that so far a whopping £1.5m has been raised!
This year, there are more patterns to choose from than ever. After all, why knit a plain hat when you could make a fox, a penguin, or a punk rocker? As the official knitting partner, Deramores is hosting 21 incredible knitting and crochet patterns, and you can get the basic “doddle” pattern from www.thebigknit.co.uk
But that’s not all all! Here at Let’s Knit, we are delighted to be hosting a sheepy Big Knit pattern by our very own Val Pierce! Click here to download it now.
The best thing about this challenge is that there are no rules – as long as the hat will fit on top of a smoothie bottle, there are no limits to the quirky creatures you can make, and they are such small projects that you can polish off four or five in just one evening in front of the TV! It’s also a great way to get your kids or co-workers picking up the needles for the first time. What’s not to love?
Once your hats are ready, send them to the Big Knit HQ with your name, address, and how many hats you’ve knitted.
