Could you knit or crochet for 24 hours with a break of only five minutes per hour?
The charity Edinburgh Direct Aid are having a sponsored ‘knitathon’ from 10am on Saturday 15th November to 10am on Saturday 16th November to raise money for disadvantaged children in Bosnia, Pakistan, Kenya, Lebanon and Gaza.
The event is being held in memory of the amazing Sister Margaret Duncan who passed away in 2013. On the 16th of November 2009, at the age of 92, she raised an incredible £12,000 for the EDA, a charity close to her heart, by holding her very own knitathon.
Anyone within the UK can participate, and if you can’t quite match the stamina of Sister Margaret, never fear! You could instead form a relay team of knitters, which each member crafting for a few hours each, as long as the team continuously knit for 24 hours.
Why not set yourself a personal goal of gettinb all of your Christmas projects done in one weekend – not only would you be raising money for a fantastic cause, but you would also be finished on your festive presents before September’s out!
