Celebrate World Wide Knit In Public Day

Celebrate World Wide Knit In Public Day

Show off your favourite hobby

Founded in 2005, World Wide Knit In Public Day is a global celebration of all things knitting. It’s this perfect opportunity to get together with your fellow fibre fans and proudly knit for all the world to see. This year’s event takes place on Saturday 8th June and there are meet-ups planned across the international knitting community, including right here in the UK. Here are three events to add to your diaries…

THE CREATIVE CRAFT CENTRE

Based in Dewsbury, The Creative Craft Centre is holding its World Wide Knit In Public Day as part of a larger festival. Set up by Kirklees Council, Woven is a celebration of the textile industry within the local area. Find out more at woveninkirklees.co.uk. Head along to The Creative Craft Centre on Saturday 8th June to have a go at creating a waterways-themed woollen mural that will be displayed on the outside of the shop. It will incorporate weaving, crocheting and knitting, so all ages and abilities can get involved. The event starts at 10am outside The Creative Craft Centre on Union Street, Dewsbury, WF13 1AJ.

ABERDEEN YARNFEST

Aberdeen Yarnfest has joined up with local charity Charlie House and the ReCHarge Café to hold a community WWKIP Day at the Bon Accord Shopping Centre. Bother knitters and crocheters are welcome to get together to show off their love of crafting. You can also contribute to the team’s Stranger Scarf or be inspired to knit for the Wool for Warmth Campaign. Find out more at wwkipday.com/knit-in-public-with-aberdeen-yarnfest

BRENTWOOD ART TRAIL

Organised by Brentwood Belles WI, this World Wide Knit In Public Day is part of Brentwood Arts Trail 2019. The trail is an annual event that showcases the arty talents of the local community. You can bring along your own project or one of the group will be able to get you started. They will also be working on knitted and crocheted items with a fish theme to put towards a yarn bomb that will be taking place later in the day outside the Bwd Theatre.
