9 Things Not To Say When Receiving A Handmade Gift

9 Things Not To Say When Receiving A Handmade Gift

Warn your friends now!

We crafters spend a lot of time on our presents, from picking the perfect colours and materials, to actually making. When we give you a handmade gift, remember those hours and respond appropriately. Not like this…

“I’ve got one just like this”

There’s nothing like letting us know that we’ve wasted our time.

“My mum makes these all the time”

Pretty much translates as ‘I’ve got loads and hers are better than yours’.

“I saw a great one of these on Pinterest”

Again implying that someone else could do it better. Nice.

“They sell these in Matalan”

You do know a micro-fleece blanket is not the same as a handmade throw, right?

“What is it?”

If you can’t tell, we’re taking it back.

“It looks so homemade!”

While this might have sounded like a compliment in your head, it didn’t come out that way.

“The fabric’s very rustic”

That means you think it’s scratchy and you won’t wear it.

“Can you make matching ones for *insert unreasonable list of people here*?”

Seriously? Do you know how long it took to make just one? And that’s for someone we actually know!

“...oh…um…[unnecessarily long pause]...thanks?”

You’re allowed to be surprised but don’t let us see the cogs turning while you come up with something that’s not too offensive.

“I’ll just wrap it back up… so I don’t damage it”

Conveniently hiding it from view. Great.
