In this pattern 'yfwd' is confusing. It is best to say with yarn in front (wyif) as you are not increasing a stitch.
There is also a correction to Row 4. The correct pattern is as folls:

Change to yarn B
[] Row 1 (RS): k3, * sl 1, k3, rep from * to end
[] Row 2: k3, * wyif sl 1, yb, k3, rep from * to end
Change to yarn A
[] Row 3: k1, sl 1, * k3, sl 1, rep from * to last st, k1
[] Row 4: k1, wyif sl 1, yb, * k3, wyif sl 1, yb, rep from * to last st, k1
Rows 1-4 set patt

Row 39 should be worked as follows:
sl 1 pwise, k7, * yfwd, k2tog, k5, rep from * to last five sts, yfwd, k2tog, k to end
