What you need to know

Learn how to knit intarsia with this hot water bottle cover by Siân Brown.

Settle down with a mug of scrumptious hot choc, some thick, fluffy socks and this chunky knit homeware to complete the scene. Perfect for a movie night with the family, or a little me time after a nice hot bubble bath, this red and white hot water bottle cover features a bold snowflake design knitted in intarsia, along with a rib neck and handy eyelets through which to thread a matching tie for easy access, making refills a breeze! The yarn used contains wool and alpaca fibres, both of which are fantastic natural insulators, meaning your winter warmer will stay nice and hot all evening.

Top knit tips

This pattern uses the intarsia method, which produces a shape of colour within another colour, without carrying any strands, using two yarns at a time. When you get to your colour change, take the working yarn and pull it over to the left, and then take your new colour under the working yarn and to the right. This will give it a twist on the back, which will attach the new colour to the previous colour so there is no gap.

When working in intarsia, using bobbins can be helpful to prevent your yarns getting in a tangle.
