What you need to know

Learn how to make charming snowglobe Christmas tree decorations with this easy knitting pattern.

We can all agree that snow globes are a magical part of the Christmas aesthetic, so it is no surprise that Nicola Valiji’s woolly tributes have hit us right in the festive feels! Featuring a friendly penguin, snowy trees, an adorable gingerbread house and a cheerful snowman, these decorations couldn’t be any cuter. For newbie knitters, this pattern will provide a great introduction to shaping, stuffing, sewing up and simple embroidery. Alternatively, for more experienced crafters, it offers an exciting opportunity to personalise your snow globes – filling them with your own knitted motifs once you have got to grips with the four designs already on offer.

What do I need?

Yarn: Deramores Studio DK, shade Frost, Blue Haze, Citrine, Ruby, Ebony, Lime, Gingerbread, Peridot, Burnt Orange, one 100g ball of each
Needles: 4mm
Tapestry needle
Safety toy stuffing

Top knit tip

To complete the Gingerbread house Snow globe, you will need to create a twisted cord. The general rule is that your finished cord will be roughly a quarter of the length of your original yarn. Fold your yarn in half, twist, then fold again to produce a cord that has eight strands. Tie loosely together at one end. Fold the strands in half and loop them over a hook, pencil, doorknob or even a friend’s finger. Stretch the yarn out as far as it will go then twist repeatedly in the same direction. When you can’t complete any more turns, allow the yarn to twist in on itself, unhook the yarn from whatever was holding it in place and trim the loose ends.
