Top Knit Tips
“Always leave long tails at the start and end of each knitted piece, which will be used to sew your teddy bears up at the end using mattress stitch. This creates an invisible join and is ideal for finishing toys.” LK DESIGNER, Sachiyo Ishii
“A small piece of cardboard inside the bear’s backpack helps to hold the shape. Simply stitch the cardboard to the back panel around the edge of the work, before sewing to the rest of the backpack, and stuff to fill it out.” LKT Knitting Expert, Neti Love
Add a personal touch with an initial or simple design with a fun school emblem. Cut a badge shape from a 3cm square of felt and use gold embroidery thread to stitch a school emblem onto it. If you’re not confident to work freehand, add a light outline of your design in pencil or biro, but avoid ink or felt pens that may bleed on felt.
When stuffing soft toys, always use safety filling that’s been safety-approved for use on children’s projects. Try to stuff your Bears’ arms, legs and bodies quite firmly, to give them shape and stability. We’ve also added a cotton bud to each bear’s neck, to give them a little extra hold.
NOTE: instructions are for one; Theodore is worked in yarn A and Emily in yarn B, if only one shade given it is the same for both Bears
