What you need to know

This Christmas, download Charmaine Fletcher's knitting pattern for a Poinsettia cushion.

We’ve taken this joyous leafy plant to our hearts at this time of year, but this beautiful cushion cover will always brighten up your favourite easy chair. To make things easy, we’ve called the red leaves ‘petals’ here to form a ‘flower’. The parts are made separately and assembled before being attached to the dot-textured cushion cover that slips easily over a cushion pad. Bright piping frames the entire ensemble and is added last to ensure a perfect fit.

What do I need?

Yarn: Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK, shades 812 Cream, two 100g balls, 977 Signal Red, 698 Ladybird, 916 Emerald, 666 Fields of Gold, one 100g ball of each
Needles: 3.25mm, 3.75mm, 4mm straight and double-pointed, 4.5mm
Stitch marker
Cushion pad, 35cm x 35cm
Tapestry needle

Sizing

Cover: 35cm x 35cm
Flower motif: 27cm x 22cm
Leaf: 13.5cm x 7cm
Large Petal: 10.5cm x 7.5cm
Small Petal: 9.5cm x 6.5cm
Flower Centre: 3.5cm diameter
Piping (approx): 146cm long

Top knit tip

With even numbers of red ‘petals’ and green leaves, this design looks its best when the parts are laid out neatly and symmetrically.
