What you need to know

These two-tone bobble hats by Veronica Shaw are a hoot to make!

This classic beanie is knitted in a cable pattern called ‘Stacked Horned Owls’ from Japanese Stitches Unravelled by Wendy Bernard. Complete with contrasting brim and a fun pom-pom, this cute accessory is knitted flat and then joined to work in the round for the main body, decreasing to the crown. When working the first row of the cabling, keep a keen eye on the tension so as not to create too big a hole at the top of the owl’s head, and also bear in mind that the owls are worked from the top down and will appear to be upside down whilst knitting.
