What you need to know

Make Nicola Valiji's baby mobile knitting pattern for a newborn's nursery.

Fluffy sheep graze among ethereal, drifting clouds in this serene construction, which will have any wide-eyed baby watching in awe until their little eyelids droop and they nod off to sleep. A beautiful gift for a newborn, this easy mobile project consists of five sweet lambs under floaty clouds, plus 14 woollen orbs, all suspended from an embroidery hoop on white ribbon. You’ll have it finished in two shakes of a lamb’s tail!

What do I need?

Top knit tip

This pattern suggests using a tapestry hoop, also known as an embroidery hoop, to form the ring from which the component parts hang. It’s a handy little item to use, as it forms a perfect circle, is nice and sturdy, and more than likely you’ll have one lying around somewhere already – if not, they are inexpensive and available from your local craft shop.
