What you need to know

Use DK yarn from your stash to knit Amanda Berry's quick-to-make animal toy knitting patterns.

Knitting designer Amanda Berry adores visiting zoos and dreams of one day going on safari. Until that time, she's created three knitted animal friends to keep her company. Involving increasing and decreasing, these patterns are great for mastering intermediate techniques. Geri giraffe, Herbie hippo and Terrence turtle all make lovely gifts for children.

Top tips

When knitting the top of the turtle's shell, you will leave some stitches unworked on the left needle. To prevent a hole forming, wrap the next stitch. Embroider the eyes if making for babies and young kids.
