What you need to know

Learn how to knit an adorable hedgehog hat and matching mittens for children.

Little ones will look sharp and stay warm in this adorable co-ordinating set by designer Nicola Valiji. Our favourite garden critters will soon be getting ready to hibernate but you can celebrate your love for them by creating this matching pair for a youngster. Knitted in Deramores’ anti-pilling acrylic yarn, this fantastic pair will be loved for years to come and are the ultimate back-to-school accessory!

What do I need?

Yarn: Deramores Studio DK, shades Oatmeal, Chocolate, one 100g ball of each; black, oddment
Needles: 3.5mm
Tapestry needle
Stitch holder
Safety toy stuffing

Sizing

Mittens: 16.5cm x 7.5cm
Hat: 20cm wide x 18cm tall

Top knit tips

Pin the hedgehog head into position to keep it secure before sewing into place.

In this pattern it’s important to keep track of which number row you’re on. Your purl rows are on the right side when working the bobble pattern but on the wrong side when working the stocking stitch section of the mittens.
