What you need to know

Great for advanced beginners, Julie Ferguson’s knitting pattern can be worn as a poncho or displayed as a blanket.

This unique poncho that doubles as a blanket makes use of two short pattern sequences, repeating them again and again to create gorgeous alternating garter stitch and dropped stitch sections, accentuated by the vibrant colour-change yarn used. You’ll be matching your pattern switches to these shade transitions, resulting in a fabulously snappy look. Throw your finished two-in-one over the top of any outfit to take the chill off your shoulders in the evenings, or snuggle up with it on the sofa, blanket style!

What do I need?

Yarn: Stylecraft Batik Swirl, shade 3738 Hedgerow, two 200g balls
Needles: 5.5mm circular
Tapestry needle

Sizing

160cm x 200cm

Top knit tip

Using circular needles can be a great way to take some of the weight off of your project while you’re knitting flat, as the knitting is held mainly on the cord rather than the needles in your hands, making for a more comfortable experience. Cast on normally and knit your first row just as you would with two regular needles. Then, when you finish your row, switch over your needles so that the one with the stitches on is now in your left hand instead of the right. Work normally again across the row, and when you get to the end, swap your needles again and so on.
