Top knit tips
To make deliberate holes in your knitting, you need to work a yarn forward increase, paired with a decrease. In some designs, like this one, these pairs aren’t always on the same row, but they do balance out over the 12-row pattern repeat.
Lace eyelets can also be used to make buttonholes. A yon is worked in a similar way to a yarn forward but between a purl and a knit stitch. Your yarn will be at the front after purling, so take the yarn over the right needle to make an extra stitch. Leave the yarn at the back ready to knit.
