What you need to know

We've all fallen in love with Liz Ward’s adorable teddy bear!

The whole LKT office have been aww-ing over this new fuzzy friend. His rustic texture gives him old world charm that makes him even more adorable. Try crocheting a love heart for him to hold and he will make the perfect Valentine's gift. Or love and hug him yourself. He's made in a bouclé yarn which gives him a wonderful texture; see our Crochet Clever panel for designer Liz's tips on crocheting with this kind of yarn. He has button joints so you can move his arms and legs.

Top Knit Tips

“Franklin is crocheted in a spiral so remember to mark the start of each round with a removable stitch marker” LK Deputy Editor Adrienne Chandler

Using the correct size of needles helps to produce a taut, neat fabric.

Liz Ward's Top Tips
Bouclé yarn has a lovely fluffy finish, but this does make it hard to see where your next stitch is. Designer Liz Ward has put together these handy hints for working with this textured yarn.
● Practise first and make a test piece. Try working a few rounds in a spiral to get used to the feel and texture of the yarn.
● Use a bright coloured hook so it’s easier to see in the thick fluffy yarn.
● Use stitch markers to show the end of the row so you don’t get lost, and take your time – work slowly and carefully and keep counting!
● Trust your skills. Use your natural rhythm and your hook will find the next stitch, just don’t over think it.
● This type of yarn is very forgiving; don't worry if your crochet isn't very neat, your fabric will look perfect and fluffy no matter what.
