Bristol will be covered in sheepiness from 6th July until 31st August as 70 sculptures of Aardman’s TV favourite Shaun the Sheep create a trail around the city as part of Shaun in the City, following on from a trail of 50 sheep figures exhibited in London earlier this year.
Vicky Harrison crafted this crochet Shaun the Sheep using 30 techniques and embroidery to create a colourful masterpiece. “My Shaun sculpture took 561 hours to make, a real crochet marathon. I made him to show the versatility of crochet and how it can be developed. I love the fact that you can work in any direction and use any kind of yarn.”
After the close of the Bristol trail, the 70 Shauns will join 50 from the London trail earlier this year to be exhibited The Great Sheep Roundup at The Mall Cribbs Causeway from September 12th until the 20th. All 120 Shauns will then go to auction to find new homes with proceeds going to The Grand Appeal charity. So far, The Grand Appeal has raised over £28 million to support sick babies and children at Bristol Children’s Hospital and the Special Care Baby Unit at St Michael’s Hospital.
If you’re thinking of perusing the Shauns across Bristol then pick up a free trail map or download the official Shaun in the City: Sheep Spotter app. Or perhaps you’re got your eye on a Shaun to bid for. Remember, it’s for charitable cause!
