Let’s Knit is delighted to be teaming up with the Sailor’s Society for Woolly Hats Week in February!
Anchors aweigh! The 8-14th February is Annual Woolly Hat week, and you could win a year’s subscription to Let’s Knit by designing a nautical-themed hat!
Nautical Knits is a competition run by the Sailors’ Society to raise awareness of its work with seafarers around the world. All you have to do is design your maritime knit by 2nd February, whether that includes stylish navy-and-white stripes or an elaborate seagull construction. We’re big fans of the nautical look here at LK, so we can’t wait to see what you come up with!
The Sailors’ Society works with seafarers in need, and it has an amazing team of volunteer knitters making hats to keep people warm. But with 1.5 million merchant sailors working on the seas, there’s always a need for more!
Hannah Willard, Volunteer Engagement Co-ordinator for Sailors’ Society, said, “Every year, our wonderful volunteers knit thousands of woolly hats for seafarers who endure icy conditions to bring 90% of our goods to our shores. As well as keeping their heads warm mid-ocean, the gift of a hat means a great deal to someone away from their loved ones for months on end.
“We’re hoping the Nautical Knits competition will inspire people to get creative, as well as spread the word and involvement in our cause. It’s great to have the support of Let’s Knit. Sailors’ Society also provides free knitting patterns to any who commit to knit a woolly hat for a seafarer – although these are rather more conventional looking!”
