Star struck

I can't believe that I have finally mastered two handed, dual yarn knitting!!

After a week of incredible workshops with Sasha and Jean I have found myself all kinds of inspired and straight away got stuck into a kookie design of my own whilst waiting for my flight back from France.

I desperately wanted to try out Sasha’s method of intarsia, carrying the unused yarns along the back of the work, knitting with both hands and weaving them in as you go. I was a little worried that the swatch I made in class might have been a fluke and I would end up with the biggest knot in the universe.
To my utter delight I can do it!

The great thing about working on your own pattern is you can pick whatever motif you want… the bad thing about picking your own pattern is the design you want isn’t always the easiest to chart! Perhaps this was just my wonky logic, but I thought that a star would be a lovely and striking design that would be easy to draw on to a chart… It would seem not! Geometric shapes are pretty tricky to map out onto graph paper but I think I have been fairly successful, although it makes me think of starfish rather than the night sky!!

It was great fun watching the pattern emerge, and even better when you see the wrong side is a full of tidy diamonds of twists and wraps. Yum!
