Getting hooked

A temporary swap from pointy sticks to small hooks

Last night was crochet time at Colchester Stitch’n’Bitch. We are lucky to have few members that are really skilled with their hooks and it’s awesome to pick up some extra skills along the way!

I learnt to crochet when I was small (well, smaller!) but never really took to it. I have managed to make a couple of little amigurumi projects and not much else.

Well – after some expert tuition from Lucy and Francis (patience of saints the pair of them!) it would seem that I can now crochet! OK, so I do make it look insanely awkward and that I might just poke my own eye out at any minute – but I’m pretty chuffed with the results. After some help decoding all the dc, hdc, tr, ch, picot, blah, blah, arrgghh - a pretty little flower started to appear, as if by magic! There is definitely a rainbow granny square blanket in my future!

The BSJ has not been forgotten- I think I am at the half way point, from the blog posts I have read this is where I should be able to finally see what I’m knitting and that it should all start making sense. Mhhh perhaps in a few more rows…

you looked like you were doing pretty well to me already and your flowers look great Laura.  We’ll have to get you doing a Babette blanket :D

I assumed you had been doing it forever! I agree that Lucy was a very patient teacher - my small piece looks okay but I think I’ll need to persevere to make any more progress!!
And I need to find a better way of holding the hook and wool - my arm and hand ached! I’ll get there on eday, in time to sit in my rocking chair in my dotage.

Those flowers are so cute and the petals are perfectly pointy! I hope we get a pattern for these! or a point in the direction of where to obtain them smile

    Well done though

The flowers look great.  Perhaps you can make them into a corsage for your jacket.  I love crocheting.  At the moment I am making a double size throw for my spare bedroom in lemon, white and moss green.  If I can work out how to take a photo I will show you one day!!
