I love, love, love getting my hands on lush new needles!

One of the finer things in life is getting a new set of needles, looking through a mountain of yarn and deciding what you’re going to make!

Well, you can imagine my joy when a delicious, shiny new set of DPNs landed on my desk!! It is so much fun thinking up designs for the LK FREE needles – it is like a knit challenge. I always like to try out something that I haven’t done before; whether that’s a way of shaping, patterns and colour work or just a knitted item that I haven’t made before (or a combination of all of the above!).

Bizarrely my ideas start out simple and then my imagination hits and they seem to go ‘pop’. It goes kinda like this: “Ohh I could make a cushion cover...ohhh for one of those travel pillows you use on flights...Ohhh I could put stars on it!” See what I mean? I couldn’t just leave it at a cushion cover, I had to try out something new!

So, when I saw these DPNs my first thought was, “Yummy let’s make socks!” Only thing is I really wanted to do something different… jumped into my stash (head first!) and found some delicious alpaca and decided it was time to do more colour work...this time in the round!

After some seriously successful charting on squared paper I have taken a big leap and worked the chart up using Illustrator (Thank you, thank you Oli for the masterclass!). Another new thing for me! I’m pretty chuffed – it makes the charts easier to use, clearer and actually all round more scrummy! Illustrator is my new friend and I’m already planning a lace charting adventure! (Nothing like taking it steady, huh?!)

Speaking of lace...the secret lace project has been cast off and is currently being blocked! WoopWoop!! Seriously the process of actually pinning it out was epic – a zillions pins later and that’s an hour of my life I’m not going to get back!! I know the blocking is crucial to getting the right shapes and showing off all the stitch detail, but man do I have finger ache from all those pins!! Just got to stitch it up now...!
