Tying the knot

I do, you do, we all do – knitting that is!

You can’t beat a good wedding – beautiful bride, witty speeches and lots of (shocking) dancing!
Its wonderful to catch up with family, especially as every has such busy lives.

One thing I noticed while hanging out with the clan is that my entire family knits… well that’s a slight exaggeration, but most of them are nifty with the needles.

This adorable wedding cake topper was handmade by mother of the bride, my auntie Pam. Throughout the weekend I was surrounded by people knitting, including my mum & sister, and small people in handknits (my three lovely nephews). Even my uncle, Michael Monster, told me about a garter stitch peg bag he made in his younger days! We’re all at it!

Does this mean that I have knitting in my genes? I hope so. Then when my non-knitty chums (and yeah there are a teeny-weeny amount that I haven’t converted...yet!) say things like “If you didn’t spend all you cash on yarn you could afford...” or “What are you knitting socks for?” or – and this really kills me -“Do you have to knit in the pub/on the bus/ in the supermarket queue?”
I can shout out - “It’s not my fault – it’s genetic!”

In honour of this romantic moment lets quote Shakespeare (’cos the opportunity doesn’t come round often and I’d hate to miss it!)
“Knit your hearts with an unslipping knot” Antony & Cleopatra (See what I did there? It must be genetic!)
Woop Woop for the newlyweds!

Today I'll mostly be sporting a fascinator fashioned out of an old tape measure and a brad!

Seriously this is what I sat up last night making – along with two batches of m&m cookies and choco-fudge heart-shaped cupcakes – YUMMY!
There possibly should have been three batches of cookies but seems that I have a fondness for eating the cookie dough pre-baking!! Oooppss!

Nope I’m not having a mad sugar rush and wearing random headgear for the sheer fun on it – Today we are having a charity, Royal-Ascot-style-wear-a-hat-to-work day. What fun!
The thing is, I should have spent last night putting the finishing touches to the Bold & Bulky Mini Cardi (which still isn’t ready for Saturday!) Yet some part of my brain thought that fooling around folding (and refolding) a tape measure just so to create the perfect corsage/flower/rosette to wear in my hair was a far better use of my time!

I super love this funky headgear, although in the cold light of day I feel slightly (understatement) queasy that the Bold & Bulky Mini Cardi is not finished. EEEeeKkkk nothing like knitting under pressure – my mum did joke that we’d be sitting up the night before the wedding finishing it, looks like she’s right!
Pressures is good right - what’s that saying about with out pressure diamonds would simply be dirt?!

PS: Let’s hope I don’t need to measure anything anytime soon, this tape measure maybe the lushest on the planet but it’s pretty much out of action now!

Holy Colourwork Batman!!

Holy Colourwork Batman!!

“I'll have a 'P' please Bob!” - I have always wanted to say that!!

To give me some knitted joy today I’m using a handknit phone sock that was gifted to me! It’s a FO but not my FO so I can’t take any of the credit for this super-dooper little project – I was only on stand-by for the two-handed colourwork (and might be responsible for it finishing up too small for his phone, hence is being gifted to me!) Isn’t this the lushest?! Even though I spend way too much time knitting being given a handknit gift is simply the best! And this is a fine example – fab colours, mega soft yarn – it even has a P for phone on it! I love, love, love it!

I was hoping that after a weekend knitting marathon that the secret lace project would be in the final stages and the Bold & Bulky Mini Cardi would be finished. It’s close but no cigar, so here’s my progress report…

I have had to lay off the lace due to a sustaining an injury – seriously I have a small but oh-so painful puncture wound to my left hand pointy finger caused by the silly small and super sharp needles!! Lace knitting is all about making holes, I just don’t think they should be in me as well! While I believe in suffering for ones art this is going a little too far even for me, so it’s in hibernation till I’m back to match fitness.

The Bold & Bulky Mini Cardi is definitely at the final furlong! With only one sleeve and the neck band to go I think I could be on a winner. The shaping is divine beyond belief – I simply can’t wait to wear it with the Paris dress this weekend!

Dolly Couture

Dolly Couture

Found this piccie of my Blythe doll, Lux, and just had to share!

I appreciate that it might not be the coolest thing to admit to owning a doll at my age and making garments for her – but there is a real sense of satisfaction in creating Dolly Couture. Here Lux is happily modelling an off-the-shoulder pink alpaca number.

Knitted dolls clothes reminds me of my childhood. Although I never actually made clothes for my toys myself when I was young, they all had a vast wardrobes of hats, sweaters, scarves, cardigans and dresses. With Mum and two Grans all avid knitters I was never short of mini woollens.

I remember requesting a pink and whiter sweater for a teeny-weeny plastic mouse – magically my Grandma made a prefect little jumper for a toy that was only 4cm high! I can also remember my mum knitting a really fancy lacy baby cardi in a couple of evenings because I was worried that Tiny Tears might get cold on holiday! (A chill was the least of that doll’s worries – I think she lost a leg shortly after!) Never let it be said that I’m some kind of pampered princess!

The weekend looks set to be gloomy but here’s three reason why I won’t be glum...
The Bold & Bulky Mini Cardi
This beauty had already been cast on and I can’t wait dedicate some time to it!
Yet more new yarn
Last night I was given a beautiful box of Sublime Soya Cotton DK as a gift! It’s so delicious I could eat it. Wont have time to do anything with it, but just knowing it’s there makes me happy.
And one non-knit related - Spotty-dotty wellies
Footwear that is both novelty and practical (and yes my best friend has a matching pair!) so, if I do have to brave the elements those pesky puddles wont get the better of me!
