The Group I used to go to - the one I go to now is very very small - so small sometimes it’s only me and the lady who owns the shop!  But anyway the one I used to go to did a thing where you paid about £2.50 I think it was, every week as an “entry” fee (they did have to pay for the hire of the room as it was in the back area of a shopping centre) - then whatever was left over went to pay for raffle prizes and your cup of tea, it was normally first and second prizes, sometimes up to 3rd - 1st was £15 to spend in the wool shop, 2nd was £10, 3rd £5.  Especially if you can get a LYS involved - think of all the extra custom they’d get at the shop and maybe more people you’d get to attend your group!  I didn’t even know where you were till I read some of the other messages and get the general gist that you’re in the Cheshire area - way way too far away for me but BOL.  (Best of luck in case anyone thought I was being rude!)

I don’t go to a knitting club as such but my friends and I have a fortnightly Hobby Club where we meet at each other’s houses and each do our own crafts - between us there is normally knitting, cross-stitch, card making, sewing and we even have a professional artist.  The relevant point though is that the evening always goes more swimmingly if there is a home-made cake!!!  Why don’t you get your members to volunteer for a cake rota?

BOL from me too!!! grin

Sorry Gill,
I’ve only just read your reply properly.  I think you could try putting a poster in Drury Post Office, also try Buckley Library.

I didn’t know about the group at Cheshire Oaks and Tuesday is a good night for me, so hopefully I’ll see you there next Tues.

Am I really that sad?
Fingers crossed I’ll get to Borders this week.  Car allowing!
I’ll let you know how I get on

Good luck with your knitting bee. I too am in Scotland, could I suggest that you have some sticky labels where the people who turn up could write their names and wear them until everybody gets to know each other as there is nothing worse than ‘oh hi emmmmm!’ no what I mean. Start the ball rolling with coffee, tea and biscuits. Ask them if they would like to donate £1 every month for the upkeep of the tea and biccies with each taking a turn to do the shopping for these items. If your hall is free great but if not you will have to get each person to help out with the bill, reminding them the more people the cheaper it will be. Make the raffle part of a group discussion with volunteers to supply something for said raffle as a lot of people may be put off if they feel they have to pay to much. Hope these help and give you a little something else to think about. GOOD LUCK go girl.
