Hi there ... another newbie from Scotland!

I live near Glasgow; recently picked up my needles again after a break of about 20 years (no patience, don’t ask!) and so far, so good ... I’m knitting baby hats at the moment for a Save The Children appeal - they’re pretty easy which is good as I’m by no means an expert knitter!

If anyone is looking for a good wool stockist, check out Stitching Time in Hamilton.  It’s quite a small shop but they stock lots of gorgeous wool and the owners are really friendly.  smile

Hello Sirius...welcome to the forum.  You’ll find us a friendly bunch here and always plenty of fun and chat.  I’m in Maybole in Ayrshire and have had some yarn sent from Stitching Time recently but have not been in the shop...I’m dying to pay it a visit as it sounds fab.  Maybe one of these Saturdays if we go for run I’ll manaage to get in.
Ihope you enjoy the forum.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! smile

I’m just about to start hat number four - so far, so good!

Definitely pay a visit to Stitching Time - I go there for my cross stitch supplies as well.  If Nan doesn’t have something in stock then she will order stuff without any problem.

Hi I am from Hamilton in Scotland and a long time knitter. Finding this book and website is the best thing to happen to me in along time. I have Spree knitting wool and don’t know what to do with it, I have started a shortie jacket but not sure about the way its going to hang so its stuck in a bag. I am also doing a jacket with 4ply and to give my hands a break I started socks. I am now looking at crochet. I know the basics and my knowledge ends there. The old american square is easy enough but now I aim to be more adventurous and use my new hooks with pride so look out squares ‘here I come’.  Flowergirl

Welcome to the forum flowergirl...I’m in Maybole in Ayrshire. I’m a granny and love to knit for my three year old grand daughter who lives in the Netherland.  I haven’t heard of ‘Spree’ yarn...what is it like and what ply does it knit to.  I am not into crochet so far although I have been knitting since I was a child but one of these days I hope to progress from basic chain stitch.. smile
YOu must post some of your work on the forum for us to see.  We’re a friendly bunch here and the banter is good...and there is usually plenty of help when needed.  I hope you enjoy the forum and join in the threads..Oh and...I’m looking forward to paying Stitchingtime a visit sometime soon...I’ve heard great reports about the shop.  Do you use it???

I hope you got my last message but I’m not sure what I am doing. Spree is a chunky cotton wool (bought on e-bay). The shop in Hamilton is small but the choices are amazing. At the moment I have 10/11 different wool packs to work with as I can’t always get out as often as I like. I go to Ayr whenever I can, I like it. Have you been in Watt Bros? They have different wools cheaper than some I have seen. The ladder wool and other heavy wool as well as Arran, DK and 4ply. You can buy 6 balls for £5. Is this the proper way to get in touch with everyone? I was answering through e-mails. I have knitted for over 30 years. The first cardigan I knitted was for my little sister, the main colour was white with a lime green stripe and then a tangerine stripe - you know what its like in the Glasgow area orange and green just didn’t go together or so my mum thought, she ripped it out and took out one of the colours so I have not really knitted for anyone else apart from family since. Now I want to practice crochet and I would like to thank whoever answered my cry for help as I had no idea and I have 4 books on how to crochet.  Flowergirl

Is the shop in Hamilton on a corner and does it have cross-stitch kits in the window?  And where is Watt Bros?  Is that the shop on the corner kinda opposite Poundstretcher?  I am through in Hamilton quite often by the way so if there’s yarn I’d better check it out next time I’m there. wink

Watt Bros in Ayr is just along the street facing poundstretchers (well when it was there) just down past marks and spencer. The wee shop in Hamilton is off the main street so no one sees it and if it wasn’t for word of mouth I don’t know how many people would know about it. I only hade it pointed out to me last year because someone wanted an Arran knitted for a wee girl and that was where I went for the wool, it is a knitters paradise. I don’t know about spree as I got it on e-bay but I can think of other wools I would rather work with, its not my favourite although the colours are bold and enticing.

Is the one in Hamilton called Stitching Time?  If so, then I know exactly where it is as it’s just round the corner from where I visit when I’m through there.

I had thought from your post that Watt Bros was in Hamilton, I didn’t realise that you meant that it was in Ayr. wink

Hi Girls....I live near Ayr and that is my main shopping centre.  Watt Bros is not too bad but not nearly as good as the Glasgow WB.  It has a tremendus amount of good yarns.
Just around the corner from the Ayr Watt Bros is the Wool Sak on the wee road leading up to the Auld Brig....it’s very good.  Then in Fort Street near the bus station in Ayr we have the Sewing Basket owned by Sue who is a member of the forum here and she sells Rowan and Patons and is slowly building up her stock as the shop is quite new...so we’re not too bad here in Ayr...or in Ayrshire for that matter.  Irvine has a good yarn shop...Kilmarnock has one...Saltcoats has one...Largs has one...so if you are out for a run any time you have the pick of these yarns shops....and all friendly ..and they sell patterns without having to buy yarn....(another thread)
