Hi,

I just had to unpick (?is that frogging??) almost all of the baby cardi I was knitting cos I made a mistake near the beginning, and now I noticed it it looked really bad, so I’ve unpicked about 3/4 of it, am v fed up with my own stupidity at making the mistake and then not realising for ages!!

It’s the Elizabeth Zimmerman baby surprise jacket, have any of you knitted it?  It’s going to be a surprise if I don’t throw it out the window!  Ha ha.

Well, am off to buy the weekly food shop (don’t I just know how to have fun??!) then I’m going to get on with my knitting, again!!

Hope everyone’s having a good weekend, and the sun stays out.

Oh, how frustrating!  At least it was a small size ... there’s an adult surprise jacket too!  I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it knits up again quickly.
And I was so impressed with your early start ... goodness shopping before 8am - wow!  I’m just on my first cup of tea smile

Nice to meet you

Chris

Hi Janet.....just to reassure you....there are a couple of peeps on t,forum who have made the jacket and posted pics of them. They also had weeks of frustration and kept posting their progress, so if you look through you will find it and perhaps give them a shout for help and encouragement.
We will be rooting for you as well but I do not think I will be making it any time soon!!!!!! grin

I’ve been muttering in various threads about having to unpick the jumper (adult sized) I was making - the whole of the back and most of a sleeve, because I’d got the tension wrong and the sizes/patterning didn’t match.  It’s really irritating I know!  The good thing though is that it’s much easier to knit the pattern the next time (and even easier the fourth time but we won’t go into that...)
Good luck with attempt 2 and hope the shops weren’t too crowded!
I have seen the name Elizabeth Zimmerman elsewhere on the forum but had never heard of her before.  Is it a circular needles (don’t know the correct term, sorry) pattern you’re doing?  Sounds very interesting but having had a play with a set that was my Nan’s I didn’t feel all that comfortable with them.  I can see the point though - guess I’d get comfortable with them with practise, like most things!

There is an article about Elizabeth Zimmerman in one of the mags that was recently published but not sure which without a trip to my den. I have to be careful of going in there as I tend to get sidetracked and after a couple of hours “HWN” gets a bit worried and comes to turf me out!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I am quite certain that before the day is out , someone will be along with the info. wink

Hi you have knitted it once so at least now you know where you are likely to make mistakes. Also if like me you would always have been consious of mistakes and it might have annoyed you.My partner says mistakes don’t matter and I am learning to chill out a bit more. There is a knitting quote somewhere that said mistakes are okay in knitting cos it makes your piece unique. Now that is one positive thinker.Good luck.Waggel

There’s an ancient culture..I THINK chinese but not positive) that would put a deliberate mistake into everything they made..because only the gods are perfect..to make something perfect was an insult to them.So now, if I make a small error..one that won’t throw off the whole piece I say..well there’s my mistake I am safe from the wrath of the gods! LOL

My favourite quote in this vein is -

“the person who never made a mistake, never made anything”

Hi,
I spent most of yesterday re-knitting this cardi, and I’m much more pleased with it now, there’s still a bit of a mistake, but as some of you have pointed out, that’ll make it a unique item!!  (That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!).  I think this is definitely a case of the next time I knit it will be much easier.

I will press on with the cardi, many thanks for all your support, and I’ll post a picture of it when it’s finished.

Janet x

PS Saw a gorgeous set of retro buttons on a website that would look fab on this cardi, only problem - the cost more than twice the price of the yarn!! Ha ha, haven’t bought them yet!

I fell in love with some hand made buttons on Etsy and would you believe despite being shipped from the US they were here within days and the cost of them was not much more than mass made over here!  That’s a benefit of a weak dollar!

Congratulations with sticking with the cardi and can’t wait to see the finished object!

Love the quote and when you think about it...very very true.
