hey everyone,

I’m new to the world of knitting and I’ve recently started knitting a scarf but its taking so long i’m getting a little bored and would like to try something else that would take less time.. (i’ll go back to the scarf eventually!)

I’d love to knit a pair of socks but when I look online its all 4 needle patterns that I dont think I could cope with...!

Does anyone know of a site or have a pattern that I could use to knit a really simple pair of socks on two needles??

Hope you can help!

happy knitting!

Well a big welcome Natalie it is great to have new knitters,

So you are new to knitting. I agree with you scarfs are really good as a starting point but I found when you knit them also they take so long and get so boring.
I am knitting some mens scarfs for my stall in chunky Sirdar Click and it is fantastic they are on 6.5mm and am wizzinfg thro I have knittied two so far in a matter of days. So go for chunky and big needles.

If no chiunky wool try putting two or i have tried three strands of wool together and knit with them. This is supper fast results really thick and warm and you can get fantastic results with diffrent coloured wools

I am knitting a pair of socks at mo on two needles as they are my first and do not seem as daungtinhg also I wanted to see how the sock comes together so on circuler i will understand why it is going that way and looks like that. So look for a partern with two needles. First.  I have one in the Simply Knitting Bummper Issue. I am not sure if lets knit have some in there mags Ill check out for you. But a book I have Is Easy Knitted Socks by Jeanette Trotman and she have quit a few.

Also hats all this involves is descreasing I thought was gone be hard but it is not. I finished one in a evening or just over.

So tell us all more about your Knitting what got you into it? I love hearing about other knitters
Glad you joined take care love Nicci xxxx

Oh Wow that sounds great. I want to get old of some vintage paterns and socks can get very vintage.
My mum was a knitter until a few years ago then last year a few months before I began to knit she threw out 3… are you ready… bin liners of wool and worst well can it get any worse. 6 folders or more of loose knitting paterns she had collected all my life when we was growing up and she put them in plastic leaves and kept them in folders. Big double ring binder ones.

I think of all the paterns I could have had She had everything you could think of.
Probably sock ones as well.

Well off for a cry thinking about it Take care Love Nicci xxxxxxx

HI NATALIEWALSH9 WELCOME and if you are bored with your scarf why not try squares that you can practise stitches on and then you can put them all together and make them into a rug or cushion or blanket??

hey everyone

wow lots of replies thank you so much!! you’ve all been really helpful!

so how did i get into knitting? well i remember when i was little i was able to knit a hat and mittans and recently i came across them in the back of the wardrobe and decided i should take up knitting again! I’m in college at the moment in my final year of studying english and history so knitting is something i can do in between exam prep to relax and also i’ve decided to quit cigarettes so knitting is a welcome distraction !!  How bout you guys how did you get into knitting? What have you knit so far?

I’m about half way through the scarf so far, its pink and white .. i never thought of knitting with several yarns but its a really good idea!

I got the pair of 9.00mm needles in the magazine this month (which is where i saw the website as well, it was my first copy to buy) i wanted to get some yarn as well cos i knew it being chunkier it should knit anything quickly… and when i got some yarn the lady in the shop told me that the yarn would be ok, the label said 10mm so i was unsure but bought it anywayz but when i tried to knit with it on the 9.00mm needles it looks like there were holes in it and its not that i’m making a mistake or anything its like the yarn is too big or something..!!

I havent got pas volumes of the magazine to look up patterns but i certainly will try to pick up any little guides that are available!

Thank you all very much!!

I’m finding youtube is great for finding out how to do stitches cos there are some I cannot do like the funny ones they ask you to do for turning the heel of socks!! I found a tube sock on the net, if you google it they are called bevs really quick socks or something like that so i think i might give those a try first to master the rib stitch .. and then maybe move onto the harder ones!!

Hi Natalie, welcome to the forum! Knitting will be really helpful while you’re studying English & History ( my two fave subjects, if I could get paid for reading books all day I would have the perfect job!), and might even help you kick the habit!

If you look at the free patterns on this site on the home page there is one for a small green bag called Audrey: its basically 4 squares joined together then a long thin piece to form the gusset, it will be a good development from scarves for you. I only began knitting properly last year and I practised making lots of squares ( some of the ones from Audrey) and sewed then together to make a squishy cushion for my daughter, she loves it.

Hay the Scarf sounds ace.
I am on one at mo it is in chunky green and blue. it is ribbed and for a man for my stall. you know I told you about putting two wools together well as the green is chunky but the blue is dk so i am using two strands to give it thickness as the chunky and it works.
This is good to use for bags as it makes it solid like felting but you see all the stitches which i think is so much better,
Hay try a bag that is another easy thing I design my own shape. Also no need to worry about tension as make it as big or as small as you want. Well no one is going to wear it.
The problem knitting on bigger needles is that it looks just like that I hate it if I want to have it neat and tight stitches But I have know got to the point that I try to forget that idea and say to myself that is the way it is ment to be.

The woman is right in the yarn shop. I found that out that you can use almost, praticuly any size needles with any yarn. Also it is being adventorous. Also sometimes you get some ace results. RACHEAL HENDERSON the designer is always doing this. And why not why should we be ristricted to the right needles

Hay in Issue 5 there where 10mm but wait for this issue 2 there where 20mm and issue 3 where DNPs you will have to join my campaign to get back issues.

I think this is fab as 4.99 costs that for A pair of fab needles and you get the needles paterns and loads of designer info It is good for those just starting out. Next we need yarn
Good luck with the smoking.
And the the Collage work. You sound hectic.
Also anything you want to know everyone on here would be willing to help.

I got into it again to destress myself from hectic family life. Also I wanted something for me. I did cards but as soon as I got everything out george who was a baby at the time and poorly would wake up all the time. So next day I would have it all to put away. So i desided to knit. And it is the best. I just pop it back in my bag then sort him out.

OH YES ABOUT NEEDLES SIZES AND THE RIGHT ONES. i HAVE TO TELL YOU THIS WHEN I FIRST DESIDED ONE MORING TO DO IT I HAD FASHION WOOL BUT NO NEEDLES SO I GOT TWO ARTIST PAINT BRUSHES. AND IT WORKED. MUST CONFESS I HAVE NEEDLES NOW. TOO MANY SOME WOULD SAY.

Anyway glade you are on here and keep at the knitting. It you get a chance to go on a basic knitting course with Rowan they are fab I did one but had got quit a way on but it is good cause you can find out if your tension is right and see where yoiu are going rong. Try one Just one day one, You get the wool provided and dinner and coffee for one day £35 prety good.

Anyway keep talking good luck take care love Nicci xxxxxxxx
