I am a keen textile worker and work in a variety of materials and mediums.  I have offered to pass on some of my skills to my son’s school and wondered if anyone out there has any ideas of how to procure materials and equipment without it costing me.  The school is not providing a budget.

Would love to excite a new generation of textile workers/knitters etc and am open to suggestions.

Thank you.

Hi Kizzy welcome to the forum.
The school may not have a budget but would they object to you putting a notice up for any donations of materials. It’s suprising what people have lying around but don’t want to throw away but may welcome a desrving cause in which to donate.  Again you could put ads in a local paper/ libraries or even local buisnesses for surplus unwanted stock. Word of mouth is also a very powerful medium so asking around in the right places can turn up dividends.
Good luck and where are you from so anyone on the forum local to you may be able to recommend?

Try freecycle.com, lots of people trying to recycle rather than throw away, you can ask for things you want as well as donate goods for others.

Hi
i work in a school and trust me budgets are scarce! we use a local play resource centre, i think there are facilities like this all around the UK....most schools have an annual subscription and you can take whatever you can carry.....great for fabric, yarn, paper, card etc (all scrap from companies)

you could also ask for a textile amnesty, get kids to bring in stuff from family and friends
