Let's Knit Magazine - Your knitting, your style

I’ve found that if I don’t let myself leave the house at the weekend (there’s plenty of housework to do to keep me busy) I don’t buy more yarn… plus I get more knitting time (knitting instead of doing the aforementioned housework… hmm...)

Although I have only been knitting for a few months, I already have a large Ikea bag full of yarn/needles etc and a drawer full of magazines/dvds.  I am trying to use up yarn by knitting lavender bags/purses etc, but then I see a new project I want to attempt!  Did see request in Lets Knit Issue 5 for knitted squares for Oxfam campaign, so will get some of them done and sent off.
I am also a cross stitcher (magazines/charts/threads/fabric etc) and paper crafter (cards & ATCs - cardstock, envelopes, toppers, stickers, peel-offs, ribbon, magazines, glue, glitter, stamps, pens ..... you get the picture!).
I have cleared a space in our bedroom for a desk, so I can have everything organised close to hand, and can produce cards etc without having to use our coffee table in the living room (wrong height, really makes my back hurt).  Just got to persuade hubby now to part with the money to buy one!

thats a great way to stash bust and makes a poignant statement about child health too.

I am not too bad at all, I have one large knitting bag full and a small box. I buy bargain wool but get through it fast. I knit baby clothes and blankets to send off to charities so the stash stays low. I have lots and lots of patterns, I collect those but never have time to do them

I’m also a multi-stasher. I’ve only been knitting properly for a little while, but i’ve got a chest of drawers full of yarn. And two crates on top of the wardrobe. And that’s on top of my fabric stash downstairs. Bits of papercrafty stuff. Jewellery making stuff. Clay. Embroidery thread.

You name it, it’ll be here somewhere!

I just buy more and more laundry baskets to put my stashes in though have 30 balls turning up soon! Hmmm my other half may notice the extension of bins this time!

Just tell him it is laundry that you have not got round to yet

May quite possibly believe that! LOL

If my hubby has a moan about my stuff then I ask him about all the stuff in his shed. That usually shuts him up for a while.

I try and keep my stash under control in the under stairs cupboard but it must be breeding in there lol
My sister has just given me all the yarn she has collected which is now living in the ironing basket. Good job I dont do much ironing eh!!!

If anyone is interested in donating any odd balls of wool you have we can make use of it to make premature baby items. i would be willing to pay any postage costs

I get so excited about different yarns and get carried away when there’s a sale anywhere.  I have a spare room full of yarn and under the bed and on top of a cupboard and I have had to set up my own yarn database on my computer just to keep tabs on what I’ve got - a whopping 98kg - its a good job I knit stuff and sell it on Ebay to pay for my next purchase of yarn - although I should be paying the bills!.

I am determined to use it all making stuff and selling it but the problem is I just keep on buying more and more wool too.  I admit.  I AM ADDICTED!

My husband doesn’t say anything but I see the look in his eyes if I even mention WOOL.  I even hide new purchases from my husband then a month or so later I casually start knitting with it in front of him as if it has been in my stash forever. 

It could be worse, I could be secret cream cake eater - which wouldn’t be a secret for long if I ate as many cakes as I purchase balls of wool!

You are not alone in not telling your hubby about your purchases. Are you a young gel? I am of the more mature variety so I tell MY “HWN” to go and play in his shed.   Happy knitting

Yes, I stumbled upon this website whilst looking for Sirdar Wow - someone has some up for grabs but I HAVE RESISTED THIS TIME - RESULT!

I class myself as sort of in the middle, not young, not old - the wrong side of 35 but the right side of 40

As for the shed which is supposed to be HIS workroom -its a tip you can’t get inside it and the other is full of outdoor play for the kids and the lawnmower.  We have now done the garden in two halves because it slopes, the kids can play in the top section near the house which is fenced and gated seperate from the lower section where I have a bench next to the pond where I can sit and knit and keep an eye on the kids playing - if we get a nice summer that is!
