Has any of you ever thought to yourself this!

‘I want to pack up working for someone else and use my talents to earn my own living from the hobbies that I have and the talent that I have been given’

I would love to have a kick up the back side and do this and be successfull but all I keep thinking of is, the amount of businesses that go under because of a dream that fails.

I would love to open my own craft shop that does everything possible.  Like workshops, evening classes, further adult education classes on projects, childrens classes.  Wouldn’t it be good.  I know I am management material but when you hear on the news about recession taking 300,000 jobs in the next two years, it makes you wonder is it worth it.

Often, but over the years I have also come to realise that I have a lazy nature and would make a lousy entrepenuer.
HOWEVER...one can dream. smile

Its possible to make a successful business from something you love, and lots of people do. Sometimes the thing to do is to build up your business online before you give up the day job. Have you got plans, or daydreams to keep you sane?

One thing that would put me off would be if you turned a hobby you love into a career would you then lose the enjoyment of the hobby.
I’ve always knitted for people from love and the one time I took a commission I didn’t enoy it at all. I felt I had to be on it all the time and not do any of my own stuff. It was one of Jean Greenhowes clowns. I had done one for my friends son and a friend of her mother asked if I would do one for her grandson. I charged £20 as that seemed to be about the going rate for them at the time (16 years ago) I timed myself carefully and it took me 52 hours, and I’m not a slow knitter.
I don’t mean to put you off but it is an aspect to consider.

I’ve read a few articles lately from knitters who have gone into business and one of the most common things they all seem to write is that they don’t get chance to knit for pleasure anymore, they are always trying new patterns etc, so I would have thought that was a down side, my hubby makes guitars and people say he should do it for a living, but as he says he wants to do them when he wants too, not to order x Janet

Hi
I work as an instructor on team building.I see so many people that are frigtened and fearful of trying something and as long as they hold that fear they do fail. But those that are confident or those that overcome that fear don’t.I always say to people everyone is capable of doing everything and I strongly beleive it.My partner is terrible at putting up obstacles for every dream I have always putting a damper on things-it may fail because....Look at the kids that go abroad with nothing and find jobs and accommadation so if they can do that I know you can fulfil your dream.
Don’t let anyone put you off.Remain postive avoid any negativity and go for your dream.BELEIF IS ALL YOU NEED TO FULFIL YOUR DREAM.
Please go for it.
Good luck.I will try and practise what I preach and stop letting my partner hold me back.
Take care
