In June I was hosting the SP on a Norwegian forum. A very dear friend of mine, Heidi, was supposed to send a parcel to me. At the end of the month she sent me a PM and asked if I had recieved the parcel. She had made me something, and was very excited to find out if I liked it. I told her no, I hadn’t recieved anyhing. On July 2. she sendt me another PM and told me she had made a new one, and that she would send it the next day. She never got to do it. Her husband found her dead the next morning....

Yesterday I got a parcel from a friend of both me and Heidi. She had started to go through Heidis stuff, and found this book with my name on it. This is what she had made for me. A book to put in my favourite patterns. I was of course very happy to get it, but at the same time very sad. This was probably the last thing she made.

Oh how sad. I’m glad the replacement was found so that you have got it to remember her by.

Could’nt agree more.  Extremely sad but she made YOU something shortly before passing away so her thoughts were full of you and your friendship together just before she died, which should be of great comfort to you.

As a very small aside, Alice - the baby bootees you so wonderfully translated the pattern for are great!  I sat down last night after dinner and made one.  Still got the other one to go, and don’t think I will make a cord or use ribbon or anything, but they are lovely.  Sorry that this is not the right thread to mention it on, but raspberry to anybody who doesn’t like it! I just thought mentioning might gladden your heart when you’re so obviously very sad.

Lots of love coming your way!
xx

Your news IS sad, but also happy and I think your friend is looking out for you still or the book would have never turned up. You have a lovely gift to keep but your friendship was obviously more precious. I hope we will all prove to be good friends to you as well.

You’re right, it is a sad and happy story.  And how lovely that the friend that found it, sent it on to you.  Cherish your memories.

Heidi must have thought as highly of you as you think about her, Alice. You have a beautiful, poignant gift to remind you of a precious friend. Thank you for sharing this story with us and I hope your grief is lightened by the cherished memories of Heidi.

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. I liked your idea flowergirl, so I have decided to put a picture of her in the book. I will also use the book as it was intended to be used, instead of hiding it in a cabinet in fear of destroying it.

What a lovely gift.  You do right to use the book as Heidi had intended you to.  Poignant.
