It’s done, including my first ever mattress stitch seam. It’s come out a bit big though as I used double knit. I just looked at the needle size & thought “Oh,4mm, double knit.” That’ll learn me tongue rolleye

That looks really good, did you use self pattening wool? and how ‘big’
is big, (i have lots of double knit and 4 mm needles in my stash and looks a good way to make use of them.

It’s 12.5in/33cm diameter flat as in the picture & the opening is 6.5in/17cm unstretched. I’ve just got a photo of it on for you to see. It’s not a close fit but I think it’s ok. Smaller needles would probably work.
Yes it was a self-patterning yarn, Escapade by Elle.
My middle daughter now wants one and is going to choose some wool.

Ohh lullies I want one… Oh blimey not again....

SEE what you’ve done Chris.  I think I need to go and have a lie down.

Baby bootees, hoodies, fingerless mittens, Bagpuss, hubby’s cardi, slouch hat, Freedom Spirit felted brimmed hat.... Too many projects not enough hours is what i’ve got!

Also got an ever increasing pile of ironing which I should be doing - but if you won’t tell nor will I.  Deal??

Did you get the vague idea that I like your hat Chris??
