Have just started knitting the mittens from the pattern in the latest Let’s Knit and am stuck already.  Can anyone tell me what the abbreviations Lil and Lir mean?  I realise I need to increase but how exactly?  Thanks.

I would have thought that Lil meant left and Lir right, but just what Li means I have no idea.  I don’t think I’ve ever come across it.

Thanks for the replies.  Didn’t even get as far as reading the knitwise tip - just grabbed some wool and started knitting in my usual madcap way.  Mitts are in the September issue by the way - only received it yesterday and have already started 3 projects!  Too many beautiful things to knit and so little time!
