Hello

Well, I’m nearly half way through my first ever sock and I’m already gagging to buy more yarn and knit a pair of toasty socks for my fella. Has anyone used this pattern generator before?

Did it work? If not, can you recommend one? It has to be a simple pattern as I’m still very new at this!  I’m sure when I’ve looked at sock patterns they always tell you to knit 1inch under the required foot length yet this pattern says the finished sock should measure the full foot length (does this make sense?)

Ooooh! I think everyone’s going to get socks for Christmas this year!

I would have said not, you need to stop about 2inches short of the lenght of the foot (heel to top of big toe) to allow for the toe shaping.  Otherwise it’s going to end up enormous!

I’ve been told about that site but not actually used it as yet.

I’ve always measured the foot from back of heel to top of little toe in order to get the right foot length before doing the toe shaping.  I’ve done 2 pairs of socks that way and it’s been successful.  Both pairs have fitted the recipients nicely!

So your finished sock measured the full length of the foot?

I suppose so, yeah.  I measured from heel to start of little toe I think… hang on, will check pattern… yeah - it says to knit it so that it just covers the little toe.  Then, when you’ve done the decreases for the toe shaping, the end result should cover all toes and fit the foot nicely!

Hope that makes sense…

I tend to measure to the joint of the big toe - which is roughly level with the little toe.

Yeah - pretty much the same measurement.  I think that basically, you need to make sure the sock will come up to sort of half way up your toes before you start the toe shaping.

Hi! I’ve used this once and it worked out fine.

Thanks for the link, that’s another added to my favourites, that bitter chocolate merino looks good enough to eat.
