Have started the octopuss wash thing, someone else did one a while ago, thought it would make a nice filler in Freyas birthday box, might make 2 so one is here, as she is now crawling and getting very mucky, so needs a bath !!!  Am still trying to find a crop top or swing type cardigan pattern in Sirdar bigga wool I got for daughters birthday, the pattern I had seems a wee but complicated for me, but am also doing a ribbed top for her, feel better with a few projects on the go now too x

Was wondering what kind of yarn should be used for wash cloths, etc? Would imagine that wool would get quite heavy in water? (and would probably shrink on drying as has happened to me in the past)

In the pattern I’ve got it says to use 100% cotton, which is what I’m using, I have 2 odd balls of mercanised cotton, blue and pink, it is looking quite nice already, I’m assuming it won’t shrink, as I have knitted Freya cardis etc in it, and they are ok x Janet

Thanks for that. I’ll check if any of my yarn is cotton and if not I think I’ll buy some and give it a go. Like the idea that I could make up colourful and unusual wash cloths, etc. Plus they should be reasonable quick to make.

Janet

I’ve made a couple now but they have both been used as glove puppets rather than wash mitts.

Hi
I use cotton too.Have tried cotton mix and that works too.I have also seen patterns that say to use any wool but I don’t fancy using acrylic.I hate the feel on my nails when wet.It is akin to nails down a blackboard for me!

I did one for my daughter, she is 12 but has a sea-themed bedroom! I used Patons 100% Cotton, as I had it, just happened to be the yarn specified in pattern!

I’m hoping to have it finished tonight, and if I say so myself am quite pleased with the colours, think I might make some just as wash mitts for grown ups, could put initials in the bit where the face goes, and leaves the tentacles off as well ! x Janet
