I just had to post a piccie of my baby sock (whispering in fear of LASK) in progress, its the first time I’ve used DPN’s and I had to use the video on knittinghelp.com several times before I managed to get the hang of it, its a bit fiddly, but Im sooo happy I seem to be getting it.. at last!! smile Now the only thing I need to master is turning the heel etc etc gulp

Oh well done.  My sister is sending me some dpns and some sock wool, so I’m going to be having a go soon.

See I told you those dpn’s I included would come in when you confidence grew. Guess what cabling is even easier than that.

I’m calling this my practice sock, as usual I screwed up the sewing at the end as you can see… I was going to try the grafting stitch but it looked rather complicated and i’ve no idea how you do that when the stitches are on 3 needles.. I also managed to pick up the stitches incorrectly on one side they look a bit stretched or something, on the other side it was fine!

Also the stitches were incredibly tight, my fingers hurt from knitting it i’ll have to go look for some stretchy yarn tomorrow to knit a proper pair, any suggestions as to some nice soft stretchy yarn for socks?

Thank you all for your lovely comments smile

ah nice thank you Gill! so if you have just finished to toe bit then you divide the stitches evenly onto two needles and use the kitchener stitch?

That is why I have different things on go at once. When my fingers ache from one thing I switch to a smaller project and also swap between crochet and knitting and occasionally sewing.
It is very useful for when I am making something for No1 and then for the baby. I don’t get fed-up of the big stuff as easily. grin

I’m calling this my practice sock, as usual I screwed up the sewing at the end as you can see… I was going to try the grafting stitch but it looked rather complicated and i’ve no idea how you do that when the stitches are on 3 needles..

I had the same problem, only the sock pattern I had got me with stitches on 4 dpns!  What I did was share the stitches out between 2 dpns and then knit the two needles together… so you put your needle through the front of the first stitch on the front needle and the front of the first stitch on the back needle, wind your wool round as if knitting a normal K stitch and then slip off the 2 needles so you have one stitch on the other.  Then when you just have a single row of stitches on your 1 dpn, cast off as per usual.  Does that make sense??

I still muck up the heel turns though… I think I finally got the hang of it when I did my last sock but I’ll have forgotten by the time I do the next one!

I would recommend Regia sock yarns or any other yarn specifically for socks.  If you particularly want soft wool, try Artesano Hummingbird.  I’ve got some in my stash and it’s sooooooooooo soft!  I don’t know what Colinette Jitterbug is like but that’s another sock yarn.
