I’m normally a very placid person and can’t be bothered with temper tantrums, however my ex turns me into an irrational harpy almost instantly.  I just get so hurt and angry on James’s behalf.

Yup, I know how you feel. Even before we fully split he would disappear for weeks/months on end, (now I know it was when he had a new female in tow) and then turn up again like a bad panny and expect to pick up where he had left off. As far as the kids were concerned though he was happy to brag about them in the pub and use them to make him look like a caring father but he has never paid a penny in maintanence ever, after me and hubby got together he stopped sending bday and xmas cards and presents altogether not that he was ever reliable in these matters. He never commited to visiting them and if he did never turned up if he had something else to do ie going to pub ,a date or football match. I could go on but I won’t.
Basically the man is a con artist (he even conned his own parents out of a substantial amount of money he has no consicence) a liar, a thief and a coward and for a long time we were better off because he didn’t bother, at least the kids knew where they stood and weren’t constantly being heartbroken by his promises and lies. It messed with their heads a little as they grew up and I know Luke still has a lot of questions and pent up feelings about him. Leigh-Ann is a lot more matter of fact and doesn’t want to speak to him ever. Hubby is their dad as far as we are all concernend, he had been more of a father to them in the first 6 months of our relationship than that w*^££r had in the previous 5 years.
Ok rant over with, Rowena I hope you can work things out a lot better than we obviously could and get to the point where you are friends and not just for Aston’s sake. It’s much easier for everyone.

Phe-ew Nicky!  You win lol.  Isn’t it amazing that we actually thought these men were once worthy of us.  Still, I suppose I can’t be perfect all the time so it was just a temporary lapse. wink

If that’s how he’s behaving, assume normal service has resumed and stop wasting your time fretting over him.  Let him get on with it.

Not fretting.  Just annoyed with him.  Not going to dignify him with my time now.  Looking for a sandpit on ebay instead so Aston stops digging in the dirt in the garden!

Ooh where sandpits are concerned my FIL had a stroke of genius a few weeks back.  They’re few and far between but this is a goodie!  His 2 youngest grandchildren are 3 and 5, and he didn’t want to buy a big sandpit when they get bored so quickly.  PLus I think money has its part to play.  So what he did instead was get one of those large plastic storage trunks - with a lid.  Buy playsand and away they went! I witnessed the first time the “pit” came out MIL’s birthday - and the kids couldn’t be drawn away from it.  He also did one a bit smaller with water in - and for safety’s sake put them both on a table so the kids couldn’t fall in (especially with the water on).  Maybe worth a look. Cos then also when it comes round to winter time if you’re getting rid of the sand the box can be used for toys and if you’re not getting rid of it the sand should stay clean cos it’s got a lid.  I must say I was impressed.  Which says a lot, cos my I-L’s are a bit odd…

That’s a fantastic idea.  I’ve got a spare storage thing that’s not too deep and it’s got wheels on the bottom and a lid!  I hadn’t even thought of using that.  Rather glad I mentioned it now! grin

Always a pleasure, etc etc.  Seems to make sense doesn’t it - rather than spend out the dough on something that for 51 weeks of the year has to be stored somewhere....

oh blimey I forgot - Tesco have got little rake sets for playing in sand with - 50p a set.  Not sure of exact details but prob worth a look.  MIL told me about them as she’d bought some and I remember seeing them in there last week, so maybe worth a look!

sandpits are great fun, you can use other stuff like old margarine tubs, plastic spoons etc for digging away in the sand ( you could even let the kids join in too… wink)
