Er… I think you mean midges, Cheryl! haha!

I dunno that there is really anything you can do to stop the buggers getting in.  I used to put up those fly trap stickers on windows etc and they get stuck on those.  Otherwise I don’t think there really is anything you can do to keep them out… suppose you could try burning some citronella candles or getting an oil burner and some citronella oil.  It’s supposed to keep away mozzies and things so maybe it’ll work for midges too.

Oops - post came through twice so I’m changing it!

I ought to try those beads to stop the bloody bluebottles coming in.  Hate having flies in the house - they’re so dirty!

Talking of household pests - anyone know of a humane way to get rid of snails and slugs?  My garden is overrun with snails! UGH!  Want to get rid of them but don’t want to kill them if I can help it.  I’m also after a decent cat deterrent (the dog doesn’t do it, unfortunately) cuz they keep using my garden as a glorified litter tray! ARGH!

Are you sure they’re midges?  They’re the ones that tend to fly around above you at twilight.  The tiny black ones that are attracted to white tops etc are Thunderbugs.

beer traps work for slugs, they attracted to the booze and cant get out again, then you can wash them down teh drain or put them on the compost heap. Tehy die, but they die happy.

Orange peel and/or pepper keeps cats away - you can get sprays to keep cats off too.  As for slugs and snails, coffee grounds are supposed to be good to keep them away, or you could use gravel or sharp sand - they don’t like to crawl on it.  If you have a plant in a pot, you can buy copper banding to go round the pot - slugs/snails don’t like to crawl on copper.  You can also buy copper rings to in the ground round special plants but they are expensive.

Hope that helps.

That sounds like a Leigh trap to me!! I fancy a nice cold beer now!  Don’t really drink much anymore and I am at my beading class again tonight so will be driving and definitely don’t drink and drive, so think I will have to console myself with a nice lolly… Hubby bought these really nice ones - anyone who likes Cadbury’s chocolate and magnum lollies will like these cos they’re magnum type but made with cadburys.... Yummy is what they are!!

My house is overrun with “midgets!” at the mo. I sorted them out and now they are all sat quietly with a packet of sweeties each and watching Bugs Bunny. LOL

Have you tried citronella - either candles or incense sticks?

We seemed to have flying ant day yesterday.  I couldn’t sit outside at all as I got all scratchy.  I’m really not very good with bugs of any kind.

If you buy those net type things to put over your window it should keep everything out, my boyfriends mum has them on her windows in greece and they keep everything out, whats it called, a mesh? not sure, but it should work… ugh hate bugs as well!! Also I think you can get plugs that you plug in and there’s something in them that keeps bugs out.. again my boyfriends mum uses those as well and there’s never a bug/flying icky thing in sight!
