Hi
I am really sorry I have asked this already but have lost the reply I printed off and don’t know how to look for my past posting so AGAIN sorry:
I want to decrease but I am knitting in a pattern stitch so as I decrease my multiples will change.Do I continue knitting each row in same pattern regardless or what if you know what I mean.My decreases will have to occur all along row not just at ends.I am not sure what to do under decrease stitches on each row.
Help please. It is a stocking stitch with odd bumpy bits in.Help Please.Waggel

Hi Waggel, Not sure what you mean but if you are decreasing along the row then you k2tog when it says dec. unless the instructions say different. eg, k1 sl1 psso. If you are patterning then you need to keep the continuity of the pattern at the same time. Don’t understand “bumpy bits!!!!” are they purl sts in the pattern???  confused confused

Hi Gill
Sorry I did not make myself clear.I have a whole language of my own.You are right I need to keep continuity of pattern.I have designed pattern myself and need to decrease over 7-8 rows.I was planning on decreasing knit 2 tog every 7 stitches next row every 6 etc as other similiar patterns do that.the stitch pattern I am using is:
Row 1 Knit
Row 2 Purl
Row 3 K1,(P1,K1) repeat brackets to end
Row 4 Purl
So I am only concerned about row 3 if I knit 1 purl 1 regardless but have decreased wont my ‘bumps’ end up out of line. For picture it is out of 365 knitting stitches a year fleck stitch March 8.
Does that help you help me.
Would like to know principle as have tried before and didn’t get it.

Is it the little romper suit?? Blue teddy?  I am still confused What are you making? If you are dec that many sts on that many rows you are knitting a semi-circle are’nt you???

Hi
Just replied and lost it so this may come up twice.I am knitting a water bottle carrier to attach to my belt for work.Knitting on straight needles.Designing/Adapting pattern myself because I like to learn.think there is similiar in Lets Knit last few issues.I suppose would be semi circle cos to go round bottom of bottle.
Does that help. How to I retain pattern please.
Cheers

ah ha, light is dawning!!!!! This is done the same way as the Daleks bum!!!. I did that on 4 needles and then cast off on 2 but I think I will need to think about it some more. .........  ,,,,,,hmhmmmmm It depends on how many sts you have started with. Once the pattern is set then it should become obvious where you put the dec but as you are decreasing it will alter the line of “bumps” anyway and short of starting it myself I am not sure what the answer is other than doing a PLAIN bottom. Sorry if that is no help, maybe someone else can put you right.

The one you mean is SPLASH in volume7, page54. It is in plain stocking st and the ends are gathered to a tassel.  Do you have the pattern????

Hi Gill
Yes I do have the pattern but I wanted to design my own and customise to my requirements.I also like a challenge so I like to try a new stitch every time I knit.I need mine to attach to a belt and I am doing main body in a mesh stitch so it is lightweight.I could do plain stocking stitch but it has been bugging me how to drecrease in pattern for ages so I thought this would be a good chance to master it.Anyway ta for all your help.I am just going to give it a bash and if I can’t do I will have to do in plain stocking and just do neck in fleck st.I have a brilliant instinct for yarns and stitches but unlike you I just can’t visualise patterns until I knit them.
So unless anyone else can help I will experiment.I don’t like giving up so wish me lick.
Take Care
