Hi
Now I am not one to moan BUT is it just me but I am having a real problem with Lets knit patterns.I thought the idea of a knitting magazine was that you had simple paaterns easy to use for both novices and experienced knitters alike.I have not knitted many but lots are in my pending to knit pile but every pattern I go to knit I run into problems. Two have definitely had mistakes in.Lets Knit told me they had had problems with their pattern checker and she had got the sack.I have notified them of errors but they havnt appeared on pattern corrections section.
I’ve also noticed others struggling with the instructions of patterns and having to get help off the forum. Is it just me or do they have a really weird difficult way of explaining things.I don’t think it should be up to the forum to explain patterns. Not when we have all paid good money for the magazine(£4.99 not a spash in the bucket to me-yes I know I always get my metaphor things wrong). They don’t seem to go into as much detail as otherr patterns and each pattern has different style of layout.I am going to be really popular with LK.Probably get blacklisted or something.I do mean it to be constructive critcism.Maybe about time they did a readers survey of what we want from magazine and forum with free prizes of yarn and accessories.
So moan over HELP Please.
1.Lets Knit issue 8 page 18 FAYE cardigan.Only want to do cuff edging but tried row 1 and I have tried every way of interpreting instructions for row 1 and I cannot end up with 9 stitches.
2.More importantly same issue.Page 14 Martinica.I need a vest for work that is not too hot to wear under a t shirt and is decent when I have to change tshirt in middle of field in front of blokes.Don’t ask!I want to change leaf stitch to another as I don’t wear a bra and think my nipples will stick through the leaf stitch!!!Alright prudes start complaining the rest of you stop laughing and help.Do I substitute another stitch with multiple of 5.I am not good at visualising a pattern until I knit it but looking at Front section it seems very little info for amount of work involved so before I start.Has anyone knitted it yet.Has anyone got any hints. Is it going to be simple enough to do what I want.Blah Blah.
Anyway hope all this drivel makes sense.

I am going to have to come clean and admit I have not made ANYTHING from the mag yet. Very few of the adult stuff is my taste and the baby stuff I have yet to do.
I have noticed all the shouts for help and wondered if it was the patterns that were wrong or if it was inexperienced knitters.

I have made a few things and got on fine, maybe I’ve been lucky with the patterns I’ve tried. I did try to do a scarf in one issue (not sure which one but very early one) and couldn’t work out the lace for it . It wasn’t the with the Rowan tapestry that needed far more than the one ball stated, this was one with a lace pattern each end and st st up the main body. I have to confess though I put it down to me having a bad night but I might look at it again as it was for Leigh-Ann to match a hat I’d made for her.

Hi
I am not an expert but am not inexperienced either. It does seem weird every one I try has a mistake. There is a post on corrections page saying they did not get a pattern checked like they usually do and as I said they told me checker had not checked patterns like she should have. Not on really.I buy the magazine cos I want mongey patterns to knit sometimes when busy.If I want to design patterns myself I can do a lot better.Don’t I sound up my own backside. Not too bothered about cuff edging just thought it might be useful some day but could do with my decency at work problem being solved. Was instructing on a open topped vehicle on bumpy ground yesterday and was bouncing for the fun of it so need a good quick knit vest that is still nice and interesting to knit so would anyone mind having a look at and seeing if I find a 5 stitch multiple pattern whether it will be correct or are there any likely stumbling blocks.I could just miss that bit out and continue in normal stitch but still concerned I may start and then find it is wrong or confusimg. It is the front bit I mainly don’t get.
Take Care and Thanks all.
Just thought someone kindly told me how to decreae in pattern.I printed it off and have lost it.Does anyone remember seeing and know where I can find it again.
Finally can I help anyone in return.Gotta give as well as receiving you know!

Not necessarily their fault if the pattern checker hasn’t done her job properly unless they’d kept her on after they found out. What’s the point in checking the patterns themselves when they’ve employed someone else to do the job? She must have been completely stupid to mess a job like that up. It’s one I’d give my right arm for. As long as the girls are quick to put the corrections up as when they are found I don’t see much else can be done. It’s a bit out of the question to recall all the mags and reprint them with the corrections in really isn’t it?

As loads of requests have been made for reprinting the first editions maybe it would be a good time for the LK mandarins to reconsider?????? wink

I’ve reread my last post and apologise if it comes across as a little harsh, it wasn’t meant to.

I’ve not tried to knit anything from the mag yet, although I’ve got a few things I want to do.  Maybe there should be a list of corrections in the following mag?  Not all knitters have computers (or am I being gormless and there is a list of corrections and I’ve not seen it?)

I don’t think there is a list of corrections in the mag. I think there should be though. I have corrections from donkeys years ago pinned on my notice board in the den for the odd times there was a mistake in the previous weeks mag. just in case I ever decided to knit the pattern.
Although we are back to there being not enough proof readers around these days to check these things. I remember very FEW mistakes being found.

Hi
I offered to proof read before but they said they are staffed.I don’t blame Lets Knit for past mistakes cos they can’t change the past.I just think their patterns could be clearer.Has anyone tried the vest pattern yet?

i’m in the middle of doing this one and i’m struggling too with the front. i’m going out on saturday to see if i can find the book the pattern is from and see if there is anything missing....i think they abreviate things (like do the same on the other side but reverse) to save space but it’s really confusing and i get lost really easily! i’ll let you know if i find anything out

just had to add my moan too!
I had a subscription as a gift, and really looked forward to receiving the mag. but I’ve been very disappointed.
I have not been very impressed with the patterns, I mean does anybody want to knit an apron or a laptop cover??
I’ve had more interest in the web addresses.
Let’s just say I won’t be renewing the subscription and will have to look and see if there is any other knitting mag. I would enjoy, any suggestions?
