I’m doing multiples of 18 and then

1. Knit
2. Purl
3. K2 tog 3 times, yo, k1 three times repeat to the end of row
4. Knit

So why am I ending up with more stitches on my needles then when I began?

help!!!

Do you knit your first stitch. When you do the row go over it counting as you go, making sure that you have not accidently added a yo as \i have done this and had to adjust my thinking you may just have to drop a yo. How many stitches are you wotking on and I will do a test swatch see if I do the same.

It sounds like you are yo-ing too many times. and as flowergirl said you should probably need to kn the 1st st.

I’m working on 90 stitches.  I don’t knit the first stitch.  What I typed are the rows I worked.  I’ve tried this 3 times and I end up with the same.

Are you forgetting to kn2tog 3 times???? maybe only doing it twice???????

Without doing the pattern I can only assume this is what you may have done.

Sorry I can’t be more helpful. long face

I have just had a look in one of my books and if you are doing this feather and fan pattern with multipuls of 18 then you should have an EXTRA 2 sts, to make the pattern work correctly.

ok, I’ve just had a go with it, a new lace pattern for my phone socks thank you.
I think it may be the way you are doing your yo. Are you wrapping it around the top of the needle towards you? this will twist the previous stitch upside down and expose two threads which will look like two stitches. The better way to do it is bring the wool forward as if to purl your next stitch (so underneath the needle) but knit the stitch and then the Yarn will go over the needle and create the eyelethole you need but you will only have the one stitch. Hope this makes sense.

I’ve just done about four repeats of the pattern and it is correct, so double check how you wrap your yarn around the needle. If it hasn’t helped then shout up again and I’ll try and work it from another angle.

Nailed it.  I got the multiples wrong.  I was doing k2tog three times, yarn over, knit 1 six times, k2 tog three times (this is where I went wrong)-->yarn over, knit one six times (it should have been k2tog three times.)

fourth times a charm

thanks for your advice!!

yes that the way I did it as well and it worked out fine. As you knit you might find it easy to count nine stitches in all counting you 2tog as 2 and each other st as 1. Don’t know if this makes sense but you should have a repeat of your pattern 10 times(k2tgx3, yoknit1x3 = 9st). Good luck with your pattern here to flying needles and not across the room.
