Have to admit I’ve never heard the term plarn before either although I’ve been aware of this concept for many years. I noticed it more about the time all the fancy new yarns came out, people knit with plastic, ribbon, wire, string...anything really.

It’s certainly a new concept, just goes to show how inventive we knitters can be where ever we live in the world doesn’t it?

As the owner of a considerable number of very old magazines I can assure you that it is not “a new concept”. The only thing new is the name.

Like everything that comes back into fashion...not everyone knows how long it was going before they knew about it!

I have to say I ABSOLUTELY HATE the idea of kntting with plastic or old vide tape!  I saw something somewhere (sorry it’s so vague) warning people against it as the plastic bags DO stretch, and the plastic does degrade after a while (I had several very very old plastic bags which had my nans wool in and so were about 10 years old), when I got them out of the plastic tuff crates they were stored in for my house move the bags had started to collapse.  And this is from supposedly non-biodegradeable bags!  So it’s certainly not something I’ll be risking!!! Oh yes I would be the one coming out of Sainsbugs with several jars of pickles only for the bottom of the stupid bag to collapse!  Bags for life or fabric fold up bags for me thanks! I just take my old unwanted carriers to the supermarket for recycling.  And you can’t wear the knitted plastic bags can you so I’m afraid that’s another death knell for it from my point of view!!

oooo I am so glad you have said that. I got the feeling I was being another Granny. As you all know I am a very easy going body, but after years of recycling it is sooo nice to be able to go to the ys and feel all those lovely wools etc. I think recycling is fine in some respects but why is some of the stuff SO expensive????

Anything really that is made from recycled wool, wood etc. There are one or two websites where you are harangued into buying recycled stuff to “save the planet”. but from what I could see you could buy new cheaper and as the councils and the government are the biggest wasters of resources these days I get VERY IRATE when I get nagged to RECYCLE I have been doing just that for over 40 years.

OOOOOOHHHH don’t get me started mad
