Let's Knit Magazine - Your knitting, your style

Hello does anyone know of a knitting group in Shropshire.  The nearest one I can find is in Powys and its well over an hours drive from me.  I would drive that far but with a two hour round trip I never manage to have enough time to go so id love to know if there was one closer?

My No2 daughter lied in Shrewsbury until recently and I am sure ther is one there. If you ask at the wool shop at the back of the shopping arcade they will know

No2 actually ..liVed.. in Shrewsbury!!!!! there is also a shop in Wellington if you are near there. Salop is a very crafty area so you should find something.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head there its because we are so rural that there are loads of groups but they are just not well advertised because everyone is so far away from each other, if you dont live in that village then its too far to go!

Your welcome, I only know about this because while visiting No2 I would always look out for wool shops!!! she is off to live in Scotland in September and I have already checked out the wool shops in the area!!!!!. I live in Nth Yorks so I know of lots of wool shops around here and as I travelled a lot for work I took note of others around the country. I am a bit like a homing pigeon, I rarely get lost and can ALWAYS find coffee shops!!!!!!!! 

I’m in Shrewsbury and would like to join a knitting club too !  There used to be a club at the cinema on a Thursday evening, but I am not sure if it is still there ?  Maybe we should start up our own ?

I’ll see if I can find out if they still meet.  It would be great to meet up with some like minded knitters. 

i’m in shrewsbury too Havent heard of a knitting club or group in the area, although I think theres a couple in telford - too far for me to travel though.
Even if it didnt turn out to be a regular thing, I would like to meet some local knitters :D

hmm ideally in the daytime for me, cant drive so day time means i can get on public transport to most places

I grew up in Shrewsbury and my family still live in Shropshire - some in Shrewsbury, some in Telford. I do miss it! 

The Shrewsbury group does still meet at the Old Market Hall cinema. Also, Busy Beez in Wellington have a knit and natter group but I don’t know what day it is on.

Would be fab to hop off the bus and talk knitting to people there. I remember having a college tour of the upstairs of the OMH during the installation of the cinema and the evil looking lift. Its a remarkable building… and the place where wool from wales was sold off to the rest of england! The best place for a knitting group!!

I agree Sezo, it is an ideal venue. They used to meet on a Thursday night but I don’t know if they still do.

nita did some digging and found out the group was/is on thrusdays starting at 7pm at the old market hall..

so *fingers crossed* I’ll make it on thrusday into town and sit there like a lemon with lets knit (new one or an old one) and see if i spot some knitters :D
