Hello all,

After the very kind help I received here on my first project - some sandal baby booties, now complete, I am on to another project. It’s the wedding belle garter p79 in the May issue.

I almost don’t know where to start with my questions on this project, firstly has anyone else knitted this one yet?

After casting on 11 sts, the prep row requires me to make a stitch (I think) it is after I bring the yarn forward, do I just make a stitch and then knit two more? It doesn’t seem to really explain it.

Then row one - is it k2, then k1, p1, k1
OR
do I do those three stitched somehow ‘in’ the row above...? Whilst also adding more stitches?

Does anyone know of any podcasts or anything that can show me how I should be doing this. I had thought for a second project it would be easy - but even with an understanding of the abbreviations - it doesn;t seem to make sense.

Any advice on figuring out this kntting into the previous rows yarnover thing - would be appreciated!

Thanks grin

.

Doesnt make sense to me either. I will have to have a knit first and see. In the meantime try something a bit easier perhaps? I expect some-one else will be along to help.

HI again....I have been having a knit and it is one of those patterns that sounds nonsense as you read through it but once you start it becomes obvious as you knit the stitches. You will need to knit fairly loose as the knit4tog will be a problem if you are a tight knitter. The best advice I can give is ....start with some wool you have spare and practise the pattern first. It is very quick to do, just fiddly........GOOD LUCK.  wink

I had a practice on this last night as well and the pattern is correct honest.
On the prep row, yes you are creating a stitch but you are creating it by bringing the yarn forward, thats how the lace effect/holes are created. the stitch is a loop around the needle with nothing underneath, just a hole. then on row 1 when you get to this loop you will knit into it but don’t slip it off the needle bring your yarn between the needles round to the front purl into the stitch but don’t slip it off the other needle yet beause you pass the yarn back between the needles and knit it again now slipping the stitch off the left hand needle. You will have created two extra stitches doing this.
Like Gill said a practice is advised and don’t worry if it doesn’t happen first try,it took me a couple of goes to get it right and i’ve knitted loads of lace patterns before.
he only way to make sense is to try it and see how you get on. Any wool will do to try but try and do it quite loosely as you will not be able to purl the 4 together.
